Solomon's Wisdom

OUTLINE

King Solomon noted for his wisdom .... Queen of Sheba wants to test his wisdom ...... presents him with two beautiful garlands ....... one real and other artificial ....... asks him "which is which ?" ....... Solomon pauses ........ gets the windows opened ....... bees from the garden sit on a real garland of flowers ........ Queen impressed.

Solomon's Wisdom

A long time ago, there was a famous king named Solomon. He was quite famous for his wisdom. The stories of his wisdom spread far and wide because he could solve any type of complicated problem.

Once, Queen Sheba heard about his wisdom. She became quite curious to hear about him and his stories related to his wisdom. She wanted to test his ability personally. She moved to the king's palace and presented him with two garlands that looked alike. She said, "One garland is made of real flowers and the other of artificial flowers. Your Majesty has to distinguish between them and tell which is which."

King Solomon remained silent for a moment. The queen thought he would not be able to distinguish. But after a few minutes, the King ordered his servant to open all windows. The order was immediately carried out. In a short time, many bees came from the garden and settled on the garland of real flowers. Pointing to it, the King said, "This garland is made of real flowers." The queen was greatly impressed by his wisdom.

 

Moral: We should make proper use of our minds.

OUTLINE

A handsome stag ........ drinking water from a clear river ........ his antlers ....... condemns his thin legs ....... hears hounds, barking-stag flees to the forest ........ horns of the stag stuck up in branches ......... stag pulled down ...... realizes the importance of legs which helped to escape ....... it was too late.

The Stag and his Antlers

Once, there lived a stag in the forest of Raniban. The stag looked quite handsome, with beautiful antlers. He was very proud of those beautiful antlers. One day, while he was drinking water in a pond, he saw his own reflection in the water. The clear water of the river reflected his beautiful horns.

He looked at them for a long time. His heart was filled with pride for them. He said to himself, "How beautiful my antlers are! They give me unlimited happiness." Just then, he saw the reflection of his thin legs on the water. He was very sorry to see his thin legs. He disliked them. While he was expressing dissatisfaction, he suddenly heard the sounds of hounds. He ran towards the forest to save his life. When he had reached a long distance, his antlers caught the branches of a tree. He tried to free himself, but in vain. He struggled a lot there. In the meantime, the hounds and the hunters approached nearer and nearer. Now the stag understood the importance of his thin legs. The legs had helped him escape, but his antlers, which he admired most, caused his death by preventing him.

 

Moral: We should be right in our judgement.
