                 The Greedy Monkey

Once upon a time, there was a foolish monkey in a big forest. There was a small house close to the forest. One day, he became quite hungry. He could not find anything to eat. He came to that house in the hope that he might get something to eat. He entered the house. Nobody was there. He saw a small box with a small hole in it. He put his hand into it. He found some grains inside it. He became very happy. He seized a handful of grain. He tried his best to take out his hand but could not. He pulled and struggled, but could not achieve success. He said, "I will not drop one grain of this handful of corn." While he was struggling, the house owner came. He saw the monkey inside his house. He became angry. He took a stick in his hand and beat him severely.

Story Alternative:

Once upon a time, there was a monkey in a forest. He could not find anything to eat for many days. So he was very hungry. To find something to eat, he entered the house of a villager. He found a box with a small hole in it. He put his hand in through the hole and found that the pot contained a lot of grain. He became very happy. He said to himself, "I will have enough food. How lucky I am!" Then he seized a large handful of maize. But when he tried to withdraw his hand, he found that it wouldn't come through the hole because the hole was just large enough for his empty hand. He was just saying, I'll not drop one grain of this handful of maize. At last, the house owner came there and beat the greedy monkey severely.

Moral Lesson: Don't be foolish and greedy.

OUTLINES

A lion lies asleep...........a mouse runs over his back...........the lion awakes..........catches the mouse.......the mouse begs for mercy........the lion is caught in a net.... ....roars.......mouse comes out .......cuts the strings..........lion becomes free.

                The Lion and the Mouse

Once upon a time, there was a great lion in a dense forest. He was the most powerful in that forest. Thus, he was very proud of his strength.

One day, he was very tired because he had walked for a long time in search of other animals. He came to a big tree. He laid fast asleep under it. In the meantime, a little mouse came out of the hole and ran over his back. The mouse did not know that it was a lion. The lion woke up and put his paw over the mouse. He wanted to kill it. The mouse trembled to know that the lion was going to kill. It begged for mercy. It said, "Please excuse me and spare my life. I might be able to pay back for your kindness someday." The lion laughed after hearing its words. He saw the pitiable condition of the mouse. So, he let the mouse go without killing it.

Some months later, the same lion was caught in a hunter's net. He tried his best to be free from the net. Despite his great strength, he could not come out. He was helpless. He thought that his death was near. He roared loudly. All his attempts were in vain. The little mouse, whose life he had spared, heard his roar. It once ran to the place where the lion was roaring. It started to bite the ropes of the net with its sharp teeth. Soon, the lion became free. He became very happy with the mouse. He thanked the little mouse. He went away from there, realising the importance and value of the little creature.

Moral: A friend in need is indeed a friend.
