MAIN SUMMARY
A Red Red Rose by Robert Burns
In the very first stanza, the speaker compares his beloved to lovely things. Here, the speaker's love feelings for his beautiful beloved are so deep. The speaker compares his beloved to the beautiful, fresh, and delicate red rose of June. Later, the speaker compares his beloved to a melodious melody that is melodiously played in tune.
In the second stanza, the speaker admires her beauty and also makes very sweet promises related to his love for her. According to the speaker, he is deeply in love with her, as she is quite beautiful. He further says that he will love her till all the seas on this planet dry up.
In the third stanza, too, the promises of the speaker continue. He promises his beloved that he will love her until the rocks of this planet are melted by the heat of the sun. He will love her until the end of human life.
In the fourth stanza, the speaker wishes a good life and a bright future for his beloved during their temporary separation. He bids her farewell. In the last two lines, we find the speaker promising to return his love, although the journey is so long (ten thousand miles) and takes a too long time.
